Groo first appeared as a parody of the brutal sword & sorcery heroes who were popular in the 1970s, especially Conan the Barbarian. Groo is a large-nosed buffoon of unsurpassed stupidity who constantly misunderstands his surroundings. Possessed of superlative swordsman skills (the only thing he’s good at) he delights in combat but otherwise is a peaceable and honest fellow who makes his way through life as a mercenary or by working odd jobs. He is incredibly accident-prone, despite good intentions he causes mass destruction wherever he goes. This talent for destruction is so widely known, simply word of his approach is enough to cause chaos. Groo has slain entire armies with nothing more than his swords. He loves these frays, and often charges into the melee with the battlecry “Now Groo does what Groo does best!”
Today, you are challenged to draw GROO the WANDERER for about 30 minutes!

DSC - CHEWBACCA - Wed. 20, 2020
Known to his friends as “Chewie”, Chewbacca was a legendary Wookiee from Kashyyyk and co-pilot of Han Solo’s ship, the Millennium Falcon. Son of Attichitcuk, husband of Mallatobuck and father of Lumpawaroo, Chewbacca carried the name of the ancient Wookie hero, the great Bacca. Chewbacca was a wise, sophisticated being of great strength and loyalty. As technologically savvy as the brightest Academy graduate, he was also a skilled mechanic.
So, today, in honor of that gentle giant, you are challenged to draw CHEWBACCA for about 30 minutes!

Medusa first appeared in FANTASTIC FOUR #36 in 1964 and was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby. Though she was the first Inhuman character to ever appear in comics, she made her debut as the sole female member of the Frightful Four, a team of supervillains that opposed the heroic Fantastic Four. She was given the unique power of prehensile hair and believed herself to be the most powerful member of the Frightful Four. Later it was revealed that Medusa was actually a member of the Inhumans’ royal family, and that she had been brainwashed into becoming a villain after she had lost her memory.

Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels was a Ruby-Spears cartoon series produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions in the late 1970’s. The show centered on the mystery-solving adventures of the Teen Angels (Brenda, Dee Dee and Taffy--and their friend Captain Caveman (Cavey for short), a prehistoric caveman whom the girls discovered and thawed from a block of ice. A mixture of Charlie’s Angels and Scooby Doo, the series ran for about three seasons on ABC.

While it is difficult to pin-point one mother figure in comics that makes a great representative for the role mothers play in our lives, the one that seems to stick out the most in American comics is AUNT MAY. Batman's mother dies in his origin story. In some stories, Superman's parents are long dead. All of Captain America's relatives are rarely portrayed in flashback. Wolverine has no memories of his past. In fact so many characters are either orphans or were only raised by one parent that it's kind of odd.
